Marcelo has 20+ years of experience in providing legal services in the technology and healthcare sectors. He specializes in disruptive technology, privacy and data protection law (GDPR).
His past activities have included working as a consultant in various international organizations, law firms and IT companies. Marcelo has also vast experience in EU funded research projects where he has overseen the legal and ethical aspects. Some of the projects where he participated include ACGT, OPTIMIS, EnergyShield, CLASSICA and MobiSpaces.
He is also Associate Professor of IT Law at CeBIL, University of Copenhagen in Denmark. He has a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) degree from Kyushu University in Japan. He also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in international economics and business law from Kyushu University, and an LL.M. in law and information technology and an LL.M. in European intellectual property law, both from the University of Stockholm in Sweden. He holds a CIPP/E certificate and has several publications in the field of IT Law.
SENIOR CONSULTANT
Alan is an attorney admitted to the bar in Germany (“Rechtsanwalt”). He has been working in data protection since 2014.
He has taught data protection and supervised Master theses on the same at the Leibniz University Hannover’s EULISP LL.M. program. He was Program Director and a data protection lawyer at the Austrian non-profit noyb – European Center for Digital Rights. He was Senior Data Protection Analyst at the Ombudsman of the Cayman Islands, the enforcement authority of the Cayman Islands, and helped develop the data protection division in preparation of the introduction of the Cayman Data Protection Act. He was Group Data Protection Officer for a Swedish financial institution with operations throughout the EU and worked as Privacy Counsel at a Swedish fintech bank. He was also a Legal Research Assistant at the Leibniz University Hannover’s Institute for Legal Informatics.
He has appeared in the media on data protection matters, including on BBC, Der Standard, Deutsche Welle, FAZ, Forbes, Politico, SPIEGEL, ORF, taz.

João is an attorney admitted to the bar in Brazil. He has extensive experience in IT Law in matters involving data protection, software licensing, cloud computing, among others, working in prestigious law firms and IT companies.
He has worked in high profile cases in Brazil and headed the litigation department in Latin America for a world leading IT company.
He holds a Law Degree from the School of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP), from 2000. LL.M. in Law and IT from Stockholm University, in Sweden, in 2006. Master´s Degree in Civil Law, from the School of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP), from 2014, with the dissertation Reflexos do emprego de sistemas de inteligência artificial nos contratos [The effects of using artificial intelligence systems in contracts].
Author of works and articles on Law and Technology in national and foreign publications. Member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and certified as a privacy professional (CIPP/E), privacy program manager (CIPM) and in charge of LGPD purposes (DPO/BR). Collaborating Lawyer of the XI de Agosto Legal Department, an entity of the School of Law of the University of São Paulo to provide free legal assistance to the low-income population.
